San Diego Ultra Running Friends |
San Diego Ultra Running Friends (S.U.R.F.) is a group of long distance runners who live in San Diego county, train together, go to races together, and generally have all sorts of fun/adventures. Club members meet at scheduled training sessions on weekdays and weekends and travel to races together.
There is an email list managed by Todd Leigh (email is TEL@procopio.com) for distribution of information about upcoming training runs and social gatherings, plus information on upcoming races and carpooling plans. Please email Todd if you would like to be added to the list.

The benefits of club membership include:
Membership is not restricted to residents of the San Diego area although you'll get the most out of your membership if you can visit the area regularly. We welcome runners of all experience levels and abilities. Being in the club is a great way to learn about trail running and ultradistance racing and to find new places and people to run with. Please fill out the membership form and mail it to the membership coordinator if you wish to join SURF. The dues for 2005 are set at $10. You can also order club t-shirts from John Metz. These have the club logo imprinted on the back. The cost is $10 per shirt or 2 shirts for $15.
There are six local ultra races per year (5 on trails, 1 road 24 hour
run) in San Diego county. SURF does not organize or sponsor these
ultras, but we do encourage club members to participate or volunteer
at each race. Please contact each independent race director listed
below for information about each race.
For those who wish to run shorter races on
trails, check out the Winter Trail run series
RND running web site
This series is a set of 5 races on trails of distances between
8km and 50km held from January to March each year.
